"This high-profile international competition puts Costa Rica in an advantageous position to show its fauna and flora around the world," said Tourism Minister Carlos Ricardo Benavides.

This is the second time that Costa Rica is chosen to host World Rafting Championships, the first time was in 1998, a year after the founding of the Federation. Since 2000, this sporting event takes place every two years.

The country was chosen over Italy and Australia, the two other major candidates to host the most important event of the discipline of adventure.
